Brightness Test
11 steps from black to white. All distinct = healthy. Merging steps = misconfigured.
You should see 11 distinct brightness steps from pure black on the left to pure white on the right. Each step should be visibly different from its neighbors. If steps in the middle look the same, your brightness or contrast is misconfigured.

How to use
- Dim external glare and fullscreen the ladder when comparing presets.
- If neighboring mid-tones mush together revisit both brightness and contrast together.
FAQ
Is this measuring nits?
No—this reproduces tonal separation only. Objective nits still require a luminance probe.
Overview
Brightness ladders complement black/white pluge cards: collapsing mid steps usually means interplay between brightness knobs, backlight APL, HDR mapping, or GPU ICC transforms.
