What is Receipt Scanner for?

Receipt Scanner uses OCR tuned for narrow thermal prints and phone photos of receipts. It extracts readable text so you can log expenses without typing every line manually.

Are my receipts uploaded to the cloud?

No. OCR runs locally in your browser. Your receipt image is not sent to our servers for recognition.

Why do thermal receipts OCR poorly?

Thermal paper fades, has low contrast, and reflects light. Faded ink, crumples, and glare are the top causes of missing digits — especially on totals and tax lines.

Can it categorize expenses automatically?

Not yet. The tool outputs plain text. You copy values into QuickBooks, Excel, Notion, or your company’s expense workflow.

Does it read currency symbols and decimals?

Usually yes when digits are sharp. Smudged thermal print may confuse `8`/`3` or drop decimal points — always verify totals against the paper receipt.

What file types can I upload?
